Planning and managing an academic career

Primary audience: research students and new lecturers

This workshop tackles the increasingly varied, and often competing, demands of academic life – including research, teaching and administration – and seeks to combine philosophical insights and practical tips in balancing and developing these different aspects of the academic CV.

Participants will:

  • Identify the various elements of contemporary 'academic practice' and explore their relative importance in career management.
  • Investigate the feasibility, and desirability, of developing an integrated or diverse career profile.
  • Develop an individual plan of action for future career management.
