Teaching in the context of research

Primary audience: course designers, teaching academics

The question of whether and how undergraduate teaching is or should be informed by the research of teachers became a highly charged political issue with the Government's 2003 White Paper on Higher Education, which opened up the possibility of teaching-only universities. Academics are generally of the view that teaching must be research led. This workshop examines ways to link research and teaching in a fruitful way.

It covers:

  • The political context.
  • How research can help and can hinder teaching.
  • Different approaches to making productive links between research and teaching.
