Values and persons

Primary audience: PG tutors, early career lecturers, course designers

This workshop focuses on the way students learn, from a philosophical point of view, by considering and reflecting on the assumptions made in current philosophy teaching and module design about the status of students, their values and beliefs, and their standing as independent persons with responsibility for their learning.

The workshop provides:

  • An introduction to philosophical issues in student-centred learning.
  • An exploration of the challenges in supporting student diversity in philosophy, especially in dealing with ethics and values.
  • A safe forum for critical appraisal of the values in one’s own teaching.
