MCQs are usually considered to be of limited use in the humanities, mainly because they presuppose right-or-wrong answers. But it is possible to devise MCQs that encourage students to read critically and thoughtfully, by exploring different possible interpretations and giving reasons for preferring one interpretation to another.

The workshop covers:

  • The nature and design of MCQs.
  • The thinking we expect of students when reading a difficult text.
  • Demonstration of an MCQ without right-or-wrong answers.
