Scott Duncan
In this presentation I will aim to explore the current situation within the Scottish education system with regards to philosophy and its growing importance. With the advent of a new curriculum north of the border (A Curriculum for Excellence) there is a current ground swell of support for philosophical approaches to learning and teaching including P4C/ Philosophical Enquiry/Communities of Enquiry. This is also combined with a growth in the number of students choosing to take Higher Philosophy in the senior school. I will explore the current developments and content within the Higher Philosophy Course and look at new and interesting approaches to the teaching of philosophy in Scottish schools. I will also look at links that have been forged within my own establishment to our local university philosophy department and how these could potentially help in links to Further and Higher education.
This presentation will allow educationalists' south of the border to gain an insight into the growing importance philosophy is having in the education system and development of children in Scotland.
