The use of audio recordings of key texts in the teaching of early Christian history and theology

Dr. Morwenna Ludlow

Department of Theology, University of Exeter

Start date: July 2010

The proposed project will provide new resources for teaching the history and theology of the early Christian Church, by recording various key texts and making them available through the University of Exeter’s Electronic Learning Environment. Many of these texts (e.g. sermons or speeches) were originally heard, not read; many letters, philosophical treatises etc. were transmitted when a teacher read them to his pupils/church community. The project aims: first, to make the texts more easily accessible to students; secondly, to find out whether students who both read and listen to the texts have a deepened engagement with and an enhanced understanding of them.
